Kamloops THC

As of May 2014, Kamloops THC is no longer formally holding training sessions, but still carry-on with the occasional Handball match.

Kamloops THCThe Kamloops Team Handball Club (KTHC) was founded in the spring of 2009 by Emily Hilton, Peter Hilton, and Rhoda Verduin.  Rhoda from the Netherlands and Emily from Sweden had played handball in their home countries before moving to Kamloops and wanted to continue in the sport in Canada.  Our first season was played in an elementary school gym with tape on the walls to make up two goals.  We had about 12 members.

After a marketing blitz in the summer of 2009, we were able to attract a number of high-school students and university students, and our numbers grew to 22.  One of the new recruits was Florian Simon from Germany who took over head coaching duties in the spring of 2010 when we moved our practices to the Tournament Capital Centre where we were provided with indoor soccer goals.  At the Canadian National Championships in Edmonton in May of 2010, Kamloops sent two men to the BC Men's team, Fabian Schade and Florian Simon.  Emily Hilton played on the BC Women's team while father, Peter, acted as Assistant Coach. The women's team returned home with the bronze medal.  In May of 2011, Kamloops had one player on the BC Men's A team at the Canadian Nationals held in Richmond, BC - Florian Simon, and two men on the BC Men's B team, Mike Eibl and Chad Moats.  Two women from Kamloops were on the BC Women's team, Emily Hilton and Jamie Niederaufner.

In April 2011, the KTHC hosted the first annual Battle of BC in Kamloops where Team Kamloops finally won against Team Vancouver 25-24 to win the BC bragging rights.  Today, the club practises every Thursday evening from 8.15pm to 9.45pm in the Tournament Capital Centre and welcomes new players, experienced or beginners, male or female.

Kamloops THC wishes to acknowledge the contribution from team sponsors MountainSide Enterprises and FoxN' Hounds Pub.
